In 2010 is het vijftien jaar geleden dat in Nederland het historisch debat over de jaren zestig werd geopend. In 1995 verschenen vrijwel gelijktijdig De eindeloze jaren zestig van Hans Righart en Nieuw Babylon in aanbouw van James Kennedy. Hoewel er al eerder deelstudies beschikbaar waren, mogen beide auteurs gelden als de eersten die een poging hebben gedaan het ‘magisch decennium' in zijn geheel te beschouwen.

Goal of the Conference
This is the second of a biennially organized conference that brings together scholars and historians of humanities disciplines to draw the outlines for a comparative history of the humanities. Although there exist histories of single humanities disciplines, a comparative history would satisfy a long-felt need, and fill a conspicuous gap in intellectual history.

We strongly favor abstracts that are as comparative as possible, i.e. that explore the connections between different disciplines and/or persons in the history of the humanities.

Dit symposium gaat over de overeenkomsten en verschillen in de ontwikkeling van verschillende types gespecialiseerde verzamelingen of musea in Nederland in de 19de eeuw. De nadruk wordt daarbij op het gebruik van die verzamelingen gelegd. Op lange termijn kan het symposium bijdragen tot een genealogie van de Nederlandse musea.
