Based on the book by Huizinga-affiliated researcher Rudolf Dekker, this animated film, consisting of seventeenth century paintings and prints, tells the story of poet, composer and diplomat Constantijn Huygens Jr.
Huygens was secretary of state to the stadholder-king William of Orange and kept a diary on a regular basis. Through his sketches we encounter his character, the heritage of the well-known Huygens family, scientific ideas and the life at court and at the battle-fields. It gives a splendid panoramic view of seventeenth century Europe recorded by a first class eyewitness.
