Leiden University has a vacancy for a fully paid 4-year PhD position within the NWO Vidi project ‘Leveraging Language, Proclaiming Power: Linguistic Politics in Early Colonial North America’. The project will examine the interplay of communication practices and power relations in New England, New France, New Netherland, and Virginia in the first half of the seventeenth century.
The PhD candidate will be supervised by dr Alisa van de Haar and prof Michiel van Groesen.
The deadline for applications is 15 March 2026, the starting date of the PhD project is 1 September 2026.
