My research is about ways in which the representation of intellectual disability in audiovisual media contributes to or counters social stigma. The corpus will consist of narratives from Hollywood film as part of dominant, exclusionary culture and Sproutflix (a non-profit that makes films with and for people with intellectual disabilities) as subaltern counterpublic.
