This research focuses on Art Biennials and their colonial legacies. Starting from a critical standpoint questioning the existence of a homogeneous model thought to have originated with the First Art Biennial in Venice in 1895, this study seeks to understand the evolution of the so-called biennial model and how its colonial legacies have been challenged over time. Considering the connection between globalization and colonialism, the project will also examine how Resistance and Dissent manifest within biennials, exploring the extent to which it is possible to disengage from all forms of colonialism. The research will employ a case study methodology, focusing on three distinguished biennials: the Venice Biennale, the Havana Biennial, and the Sharjah Biennial.
